Vadodara: An 11-year-old boy, Naksh Soni, died of electrocution on Tuesday evening after a live power cable reportedly fell into a puddle near the Gujarat Housing Board area in Padra town.According to eyewitnesses, Naksh was riding his bicycle through the waterlogged road when he suffered a fatal electric shock. “I was walking past the same spot and felt a sudden electric jolt. I jumped back and saw the boy heading toward the puddle. I shouted to warn him, but he didn’t understand and rode into it,” said Bharat Mathur, a local resident. The live wire, believed to have snapped from an overhead power line, had fallen into the puddle, electrifying the water. Onlookers said they were unable to rescue the boy immediately out of fear of getting electrocuted themselves. A team from MGVCL arrived shortly after and disconnected the live wire.Naksh, a fifth-standard student, was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.Locals expressed anger, claiming they had filed repeated complaints about the area’s poor drainage and a hanging wire. “The live wire had been hanging here for nearly 10 days. We had informed MGVCL, but nothing meaningful was done,” said Dinesh Patel, a resident.Padra police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated an investigation into the matter.
