Vadodara: Eleven students of Central University of Gujarat (CUG) were rushed to the state-run SSG Hospital late on Sunday night after complaining of uneasiness, suspected to be caused by heatstroke or dehydration. The students, from the Kundhela campus near Dabhoi, were kept under observation overnight. Doctors at SSG Hospital said all of them were stable and were relieved after being given fluids and ORS. CUG officials indicated that food poisoning was unlikely, noting that a larger number of people would have been affected if that were the case. “There are chances the students may have suffered heatstroke during their routine weekend visit to the city,” CUG authorities said, adding that advisories on hydration and diet have been issued to hostel students by the university’s medical officer. The incident followed an annual day function held on Friday night that saw around 1,000 attendees, though officials said no link has been established. Sources said this was not the first instance of students at the CUG campus falling ill. Earlier, there was a major controversy over the quality of food served at the hostel. CUG officials, however, said a new food vendor has been appointed recently to improve quality. All affected students were discharged and returned to the campus early on Monday morning.
