Patna: Chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday announced that students of the Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change (LNMI), Patna, would get opportunities to study and learn from prestigious institutions abroad under the “Ganga to Global” programme.Addressing students after inaugurating the induction and orientation programme “Aagaaz 2026” on the LNMI campus, Choudhary said around 100 students would be sent abroad every academic session for a one-month exposure visit. He said the initiative would introduce students from Bihar to the functioning, knowledge systems and specialisations of leading institutions in India and other countries.The CM also announced that a Centre of Excellence for AI, a Centre for Urban Policy and Governance, and a Quantum Computer Centre would be established at LNMI. He said 10 acres of land would be provided to the institute for a satellite campus in the new township proposed in Patna. In addition, the proposed one acre of land belonging to the building construction department would be handed over to LNMI to address its land shortage.Choudhary said Bihar’s youth would play an important role in restoring global recognition to the state’s historic Magadh heritage. He urged young people from Bihar, whether living in India or abroad, to remain connected to their birthplace and contribute to the state’s prosperity. He said better opportunities for study and research would be provided in modern policy making, urban development, administration and governance.The CM said technology was becoming increasingly important and the use of AI was expanding rapidly. He said Bihar had done significant work in flood management. Referring to the river-linking project launched under former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said the state had sought work on the Kosi, Narayani and Ganga river basins for better water management. Bihar currently has 44 lakh hectares of irrigated land, he said.He said a 200-km riverfront drive along the Ganga would be built in PPP mode by 2030 with an investment of Rs1 lakh crore. He said industrial development was necessary for Bihar’s prosperity.He also honoured six gold medallists from the 2026 pass-out batch, welcomed students admitted to the 2026-28 batch, launched the Learning Management System and said LNMI’s capacity would be increased from 1,600 students to 3,000.
