The Gurgaon police acted decisively, arresting ten individuals linked to the unlawful transport of garbage and plastics from Delhi

GURGAON: Ten people have been arrested for allegedly transporting garbage and plastic waste from Delhi to Gurgaon for dumping and segregation, with police recovering seven vehicles, including canters and tractor-trolleys, used in the operation.Police have registered four cases in connection with the crackdown — two at Bajghera police station and one each at Udyog Vihar and Rajendra Park police stations.“The arrests were made as part of a special campaign launched on the directions of the Gurgaon police commissioner to check the illegal transportation and dumping of waste from Delhi into the city. Police teams intercepted vehicles during checking at different locations and initiated action against those involved,” a police official said.During preliminary questioning, the accused told investigators about a network through which garbage and plastic waste was brought from Delhi to Gurgaon.Police said the plastic was separated from the mixed waste after it was brought into the city and segregated before being sent to other places.Police are now probing the wider network and trying to identify other people involved in transporting, receiving, segregating and further moving the waste.“We are also examining the role of the owners of the seven seized vehicles,” DCP (West) YVR Shashi Shekhar said.“Action would be taken against vehicle owners if their involvement in the illegal activity is established during the investigation.”Officials said the probe is also focused on identifying other vehicles and people linked to the waste transportation chain. The arrested accused are being questioned to establish where the waste was collected in Delhi, where it was being taken in Gurgaon and who was involved in its segregation and onward transportation. The police campaign comes amid concerns over illegal dumping and the movement of waste into Gurgaon from neighbouring areas. Police said action against those involved in activities causing environmental damage would continue.
