Tragedy struck near Modi Mill Flyover as a truck collided with a scooty, claiming the life of 19-year-old student Manav and critically injuring 21-year-old Mohammad Saad.

NEW DELHI: A 19-year-old student was killed and another critically injured after a scooty was hit by a truck near the Modi Mill Flyover on Mathura Road in southeast Delhi in the early hours of Friday, police said.The deceased has been identified as Manav, 19, a resident of Sarai Julena and a student. He was declared brought dead at the hospital.The injured student, Mohammad Saad, 21, a resident of Gaffar Manzil in Jamia Nagar, is currently undergoing treatment and remains in critical condition. The scooty involved in the accident is registered in the name of his father, police said.According to police, a PCR call was received at New Friends Colony police station around 12am on 13 February regarding an unconscious person lying on the Sarita Vihar-bound carriageway near the flyover. As police rushed to the spot, they encountered heavy traffic congestion and received multiple calls from passersby reporting a serious accident.Preliminary enquiries revealed that the accident took place between 12am and 1am on the intervening night of 12 and 13 February. A scooty bearing a Delhi registration number was allegedly hit by a truck bearing a Rajasthan number that was heading towards Badarpur. The truck, loaded with grocery items, was travelling from Badli to Nagpur at the time of the incident. Police said no cleaner or helper was present in the vehicle.The accused truck driver, Jahul, 32, a resident of Nuh in Haryana, has been detained. He has been working for the truck owner, identified as Rashid, for the past two years. The driver has claimed that he possesses a valid driving licence and that the vehicle is insured; both documents are under verification.A crime team inspected the scene and collected evidence. No helmets were found at the spot, officials said.Police have initiated legal proceedings under relevant sections of law, and further investigations into the incident are underway.
