Guwahati: Over 1.72 lakh illegal immigrants have been identified so far as per the Assam Accord, and just over 31,000 of them have been repatriated from Assam, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a written reply to a query by AGP MLA Diptimayee Choudhury.The CM , who holds home and political portfolios, said 1,72,673 illegal immigrants have been detected so far in Assam. He said the govt has repatriated 31,789 illegal foreigners from Assam, without sharing details of their country of origin. Of them, 470 were deported, 29,663 pushed back, 1,572 sent back according to the instructions of the ministry of home affairs, and 84 were expelled, he said.Sarma said cases involving 73,759 more suspected illegal immigrants are pending before Foreigners Tribunals.According to the Assam Accord, foreigners who entered Assam on or after March 25, 1971, are to be detected, deleted from electoral rolls, and deported .The CM said 174 declared foreigners are now lodged at the transit camp, earlier known as a detention camp, in Goalpara.
