Chennai: An 18-year-old from West Bengal was electrocuted after he came into contact with a damaged electrical cable at a stormwater drain construction site in Pammal near Pallavaram on Saturday night. Police are probing whether adequate safety measures were in place at the work site. The deceased has been identified as Dev GlaThe deceased, Dev Gulatar, had arrived in Chennai a week ago and was staying with his elder brother Goyal, 26, who works at the site. Stormwater drain construction, being carried out by a private contractor, has been under way on Selva Vinayagar Koil street for the past few days. Around 6pm, when Dev went to the site to give food to his brother, he accidentally stepped on a live cable connected to a road-drilling machine.Workers rushed Dev to the Government Hospital in Chromepet, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police sent the body for a postmortem examination.
