Chennai: A quest for the perfect social media reel turned tragic for an 18-year-old student in Chennai, who died after hitting his head on submerged rocks in the sea off Ennore.The deceased, identified as Pradeep, was a resident of Annai Sivagami Nagar in Ennore, and had recently completed his Class XII exams. On Saturday evening, Pradeep went to Periyakuppam beach with four of his friends. While swimming, he attempted to shoot a video for social media. He asked his friends to film him as he swam into the waves, hoping to create content for social media platforms .However, while focusing on posing and performing for the camera, Pradeep was caught off guard by a strong wave. He was dragged by the current and hit his head on submerged rocks, sustaining severe injuries. His friends immediately pulled him ashore and sought help from local fishermen. Pradeep succumbed to his injuries on the way to Stanley Govt Hospital. Ennore police registered a case and sent the body for postmortem. Further investigations are underway.A similar tragedy was reported last year. On March 15, 19-year-old Kiran Raj, a welder from Tondiarpet, drowned while attempting to shoot videos at a pond with friends. Despite being warned of the danger, the group proceeded with their shoot. Kiran Raj went missing during the outing, and his body was later found floating in the water.
