Lucknow: A young couple died after jumping in front of a moving train on the Khalilabad–Basti railway line near Saraiya in Sant Kabir Nagar district in the wee hours of Saturday in an apparent case of suicide.Police, however, said they are investigating all possible angles and will ascertain the exact circumstances after the post-mortem examination and further inquiry.According to police, trackmen Abhay Kumar Yadav and Hanumant Kumar Yadav were inspecting the railway line at around 8.15 pm when they found the young man and woman lying critically injured on the up-line track near Saraiya. They immediately shifted the victims away from the tracks to prevent disruption to train services and alerted the GRP and Dial-112.

Both were rushed separately by ambulance to the district hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.Police said boy’s identity was established after his brother called his mobile phone while he was being taken to hospital. The ambulance driver answered the call and informed the family about the incident.Preliminary investigation revealed that both deseased had been in a relationship for nearly a year. The two reportedly became close because girl’s sister is married to boy’s brother, leading to frequent visits between the families. Family members said the couple wanted to get married immediately. According to relatives, both families had agreed to the marriage in principle but had requested some time due to financial constraints and preparations for the wedding.Girl’s mother said the family was facing financial difficulties and had sought additional time so the marriage could be conducted properly. However, the couple was reportedly unwilling to wait.Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and initiated an investigation into the incident. Circle Officer Khalilabad Priyam Rajshekhar Pandey said the exact cause of death and circumstances would be established only after the post-mortem report and completion of the investigation. He added that police would also examine any complaint received from either family as part of the probe.
