Gurgaon: Residents of the city can now access information about their locality in just a few clicks — MCG on Friday launched an interactive geographic information system (GIS) map, which will provide geographical and administrative details for any location within the municipal limits. The map was launched days after the civic body reorganised the city into eight zones. The new digital platform, available on the MCG website, has been designed to provide updated information on the new zones in an effort to improve transparency, strengthen governance and make public services more efficient.Using the interactive map, residents, councillors and govt officials can find out its ward number, zone and cluster, colony name, previous administrative division and whether the colony is approved or unapproved. The platform also indicates whether a location falls within the 900-metre area around the IAF ammunition depot. An MCG official said the system is expected to eliminate confusion over administrative jurisdiction and improve coordination among various departments so that it can be quickly determined which department or unit is responsible for an issue in a particular area. The GIS map will also support grievance redressal, planning and execution of development works, sanitation management, property tax administration and the delivery of water.MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said, “The civic body has invited feedback from officials and other stakeholders to further improve the platform and make it more citizen-friendly. This initiative is an important step towards better governance, faster decision-making and more effective delivery of public services.”
