Lucknow: Setting the target of hoisting the national flag atop at least 5 crore houses during the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign this year, chief minister Yogi Adityanath that the drive should be transformed into a mass movement which should connect every citizen with patriotism and respect for the national flag.The national song and the national anthem will also be played mandatorily in all cinema halls across the state on Aug 14 and 15. On Friday, CM issued an appeal to people of the state to join the campaign and said that ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ was a national initiative to instil patriotism in the hearts of all Indians and respect for the national flag and the country’s history.CM issued these directions during a meeting to review preparations for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, Independence Day and Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas. During the celebrations, all govt, semi-govt and aided departments and institutions, local bodies, educational institutions, gram panchayats, fair price ration shops, industrial and commercial establishments and social organisations have been directed to hoist the Tricolour on their buildings.In 2022, the Tricolour was hoisted on more than 4.1 crore homes in UP, a number that rose to more than 4.5 crore in 2023 and 2024, and 4.76 crore in 2025.To ensure availability of such a large number of flags, CM said that arrangements for manufacturing, availability and distribution should be ensured ahead of the campaign. “Self-help groups, Khadi and village industries institutions, MSME units and local production centres should be linked with the campaign and flags should be made available to the public through ration shops, gram panchayat buildings, Jan Seva Kendras, tehsils, development block offices, schools, anganwadi centres, post offices, petrol pumps and other designated centres,” he said.Govt will also organise rallies, concerts, exhibitions and programmes on the theme of Tricolour across the state. Major govt buildings, railway stations, bus stands, airports, public places, major markets and intersections will also be decorated on the Tiranga theme.In schools and colleges, exhibitions on freedom fighters, singing of Vande Mataram, painting competitions and other patriotism-based activities will be organised.Two major events, Kakori Train Action Day on Aug 9 and Independence Day on Aug 15, will be celebrated on a major scale.“Special programmes should be organised across the state from Aug 9 to Aug 15 at memorials, remembrance sites and martyrdom sites associated with the freedom struggle. Family members of freedom fighters and martyrs will be honoured during the programmes, and police bands will perform at events,” Yogi said.“Special cleanliness campaigns should be conducted across the state before these events. The contribution of the heroes of the freedom struggle should be widely conveyed to every person. Every citizen should be connected to the campaign through patriotism-filled cultural programmes, Tiranga rallies, music ceremonies and collective singing of Vande Mataram. Special programmes should also be organised at Amrit Sarovars and village secretariats,” CM said.Preparations for Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas to be observed on Aug 14 were also reviewed at the meeting. CM said that the tragedy of the country’s Partition should be conveyed to the new generation not merely as a chapter in history, but as an inspiration to keep national unity and integrity intact. Such programmes should be organised that give youth an opportunity to learn the real history of the pain of Partition, the displacement of lakhs of people and their struggle.Events to commemorate the Partition, observed as Vibhajan Vibhishika Diwas, will be organised on Aug 14 at each district headquarters. Families affected by Partition, including Punjabi, Sindhi and Bengali families, will be invited to share their experiences while refugee families who came from Bangladesh will also be invited to participate in the events. “Candle march should be organised and the youth should be made aware of the details of Partition through discussions, dialogues and seminars in universities and colleges,” Yogi said.
