Gorakhpur: The Yogi Adityanath govt is accelerating road infrastructure development in rural areas of Gorakhpur, with major widening and strengthening projects in the city’s southern belt nearing completion. The initiatives are expected to improve connectivity and ease transportation for lakhs of residents in areas that remained infrastructure-deficient for decades.According to the Public Works Department (PWD), the 18-km Uruwa–Dhuriyapar–Shahpur–Belghat road is in the final phase of widening and strengthening work. The project, being executed at a cost of Rs 57.68 crore, has achieved around 95% physical progress and is targeted for completion by June-end. Officials said the route is crucial for improving connectivity across the Dakshinanchal region.Another key project, the 8-km Sikriganj–Belghat–Loharaiya road, is also undergoing widening and strengthening at a cost of Rs 22.32 crore. More than 80% of the work has been completed so far. The upgraded road is expected to facilitate smoother movement of heavy vehicles and significantly improve travel convenience between Belghat, Loharaiya and Sikriganj areas.PWD officials said several other road projects in the southern region are also progressing rapidly and are likely to be completed by June-end. These include the Gorakhpur–Khajni–Sikriganj main road and the Mahdeva–Dudhra–Sopra route, both aimed at boosting rural connectivity and regional development.
