The weather department has forecast a gradual rise of 6-8°C in maximum temperatures over the next seven days

Gurgaon: Strong gusty winds swept across the city around 6.30pm on Sunday, keeping temperatures below normal. IMD issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in the district over the next few days.According to the Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 19.9°C at the AWS station on Sunday morning, around 1.6°C lower than the previous day. The city received light rainfall, with 0.5 mm recorded at Gurgaon AWS, while NorthCap University AWS recorded 5 mm rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30am.Maximum temperatures also remained subdued. The KVK observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34.9°C, while NorthCap University AWS recorded 36.4°C, significantly lower than the temperatures witnessed earlier this month when the city experienced intense heat.The district is among several parts of Haryana placed under a yellow alert on Sunday. According to the latest forecast, light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places till June 3, with another spell expected on June 5 and June 6. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places from June 1 to June 4.Meteorologists attributed the change in weather to a cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas, along with an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Haryana. The systems have enhanced moisture inflow into the region, triggering repeated spells of rain and thunderstorms.Across Haryana, temperatures remained below normal. The state’s average maximum temperature was 7.4°C below normal, while the average minimum temperature was 5.8°C below normal. Ambala recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 18°C, while Sirsa recorded the highest maximum temperature at 37°C.The weather department has forecast a gradual rise of 6-8°C in maximum temperatures over the next seven days, indicating that temperatures are likely to increase once the current spell of rain and cloud cover weakens.Officials advised residents to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and stay away from trees, electric poles and other vulnerable structures during periods of strong winds and lightning activity.
