Mumbai: Jupiter Hospital, Thane, said it had successfully performed the world’s first robotic kidney transplant surgeries outside China using the CE-certified Toumai robotic surgical system from MicroPort MedBot.
The Toumai robotic platform provided high-definition, three-dimensional visualisation with enhanced dexterity, precision and surgical control, supporting the surgical team in performing the highly complex transplant procedures, the hospital said.
The two consecutive transplants were carried out on patients with end-stage kidney disease, both of whom recovered well after surgery, the hospital added.
The procedures were led by senior transplant surgeon Dr. P. P. Rao, along with robotic kidney transplant surgeon Dr. Lokesh Sinha and the multidisciplinary transplant team.
