GURGAON: A 32-year-old woman working with a private company in the city allegedly died by suicide in Worldmark, where her office is based.Her husband was arrested on Thursday after an FIR was registered against him and his parents on charges of abetment to suicide, following a complaint by the woman’s brother.The woman, who worked at Birla Estates’ Worldmark office in Sector 65, died on Wednesday afternoon. Her brother alleged she was subjected to mental, physical and financial harassment by her husband Amit Singal and his family after their marriage.The brother alleged his sister was assaulted by her husband and claimed that she had told him on April 27 that she was beaten with belts. He told police that photographs of her injuries were preserved as evidence.Police received information around 2pm on Wednesday about the incident at Tower 3 of the complex. By the time they reached the spot, security guards had shifted her to CK Birla Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Her body was later shifted to the govt mortuary for an autopsy.Sector 65 police station registered the FIR under sections 108 (abetment to suicide) and 3(5) of the BNS against the husband and other accused persons. An officer said, “The family will be interrogated. If any such instances come forward, we will take necessary action against the accused.”The brother told police that he spoke to her at 12.07 pm on Tuesday. Speaking to the TOI, he said, “She seemed unsettled. However, she didn’t show any sign of distress indicating that she would take the extreme step.” Around two hours later, the family received a call informing them that she had died by suicide.Her family has alleged that she was not allowed to keep her salary, Rs 12 lakh annually, and give all of it to her husband, who would refuse to share anything with her for her personal expenses. The brother alleged it was him who sent money regularly to his sister for her daily needs.According to the police complaint, she was also frequently taunted by her husband over caste and the mother-in-law supported the son when he beat his wife. The woman and her husband belong to different castes. When she went to her parents’ place in Dehradun, she was allegedly threatened with divorce.The brother also posted a video to social media, asking for support to seek justice. “She was married in Meerut and used to commute daily from Meerut to Gurgaon for work. Her husband, a chartered accountant named Amit Singal, harassed her for a long time,” he said.
