Bullet train rolling stock depot at Sabarmati in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Work on the Sabarmati and Surat rolling stock depots, key maintenance hubs for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, has gathered pace as the facilities takes shape to support the operations of India’s first bullet train service.The Sabarmati depot is one of three major rolling stock depots planned along the MAHSR corridor, with the other two coming up at Surat and Thane in Maharashtra. Sabarmati facility is being equipped to handle both light and heavy maintenance of high-speed trainsets.The depot will house a range of specialised facilities, including an emergency repair shop, wheel re-profiling shop, car body repair workshop, equipment and bogie workshops and general inspection facilities. It will also have inspection sheds, a train washing plant and systems for effluent treatment, sewage treatment and garbage disposal.Stabling lines at the depot will allow trainsets to be parked, inspected and prepared for operations. Initially, the facility will have four inspection lines and 10 stabling lines. The infrastructure has been planned for expansion to eight inspection lines and 29 stabling lines as operational requirements increase.Dedicated bogie exchange lines and general inspection lines will facilitate bogie replacement, inspection and overhaul. The workshops and inspection facilities are being designed to accommodate 16-car high-speed trainsets.
