Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday assured the state govt was on alert and closely monitoring the situation to ensure that the supply of essential commodities remained stable and accessible. Mann said he raised the matter with the Centre to ensure an adequate supply of LPG cylinders was maintained, so that common people did not face inconvenience in coming days.“State govt will not allow panic, hoarding, or exploitation of consumers under any circumstances,” he said. He noted that the conflict in West Asia triggered widespread rumours across India regarding a potential LPG shortage, causing unnecessary alarm in public. “Rumours are being spread about a shortage of LPG cylinders. The Punjab govt is fully alert and monitoring the situation closely. All DCs have been directed to ensure there is no shortage of essential goods and people do not face any inconvenience,” said Mann.Warning against attempts to exploit the situation, Mann said the govt will act firmly against anyone trying to create panic or manipulate the supply of essential goods. “If anyone tries to mislead people by hoarding essential goods or spreading rumours about shortages, the severest exemplary action will be taken,” he said.He added black marketing or overcharging of LPG cylinders will not be tolerated, and authorities have been instructed to keep a strict watch on the market. “If anyone is found involved in black marketing of LPG cylinders or charging more than the fixed price, strict action will be taken against them,” he said.
