Chandigarh: Trading their black-and-white courtroom attire for cricket gear, women advocates at the Punjab and Haryana high court made history on Tuesday as Legal Strikers defeated The Legal Titans by one run in the court’s first-ever women’s cricket match.Chasing a target of 25 runs after The Legal Titans scored 24 runs in eight overs, Legal Strikers reached 25 runs to secure victory in a closely contested match played near Court No. 1 at 4.30 pm before an enthusiastic crowd of 300 to 400 spectators.Inaugurated by high court judges, the match followed a representation submitted on Sept 16 by advocate Savita Sisodia to the Bar Association leadership, urging the inclusion of women’s teams or a parallel tournament in the Intra-Bar Cricket Tournament–2026 to promote equal opportunity and fitness.Captain Gargi Kumar and vice-captain Dr Kirandeep Kaur led the winning side, Legal Strikers. Their squad included Gurpreet Sarabha, Monika Jangra, Roopsee Sharma, Ruby Kaur, Divya Gulati, Kamaldeep Dhaliwal, Rajni Rohilla, Vaishali, Sunita Nambiar, Gurinderjit Kaur, Gurdeep Kaur, and Ramandeep Kaur Brar. The Legal Titans were captained by Ekta Thakur alongside vice-captain Savita Sisodia. We are all more motivated towards fitness now,” Sisodia told TOI, noting that many players picked up a bat again after 30 years following 15 days of practice.Joint secretary of the Bar Association and winning vice-captain Dr Kirandeep Kaur described the experience as intense and exciting. “Playing in front of 300-400 people was intense. Everyone wanted to witness this. I was in Class 10 when I last played cricket, and I am 42 now. This has been a great initiative,” she added.
