Patna: The body of a 23-year-old married woman was recovered from the Baya river in a sack, with her feet and neck tied with a bedsheet, in Samastipur district on Thursday. She had been missing since April 21. The family alleged she was killed by her in-laws. The incident is from Narayanpur village under Mohiuddinnagar police station area. One person has been detained for interrogation, police said.The deceased was identified as Ragini Kumari, wife of Chhotu Sahni.Ragini’s father, Bilat Sahni, who reached Sadar hospital for the post-mortem, alleged his daughter was murdered and the body dumped in the river. Due to the stench, police suspect she was strangled about three days ago. To destroy evidence, the body was stuffed in a sack and thrown into the river.Bilat said he married Ragini three years ago with full ceremonies and gave dowry as per capacity. “Whatever the in-laws asked for, we gave,” he said.The couple has a child. Chhotu works as a labourer in Bengaluru. Ragini lived with her in-laws and had frequent disputes.“She was killed for talking on the phone and the body was thrown in the river,” the father alleged. “I will go to any extent to get justice for my daughter.”Patori DSP BK Medhavi said, “The body was found in a sack with legs tied, so the in-laws are under suspicion. The father-in-law has been detained and is being questioned.”An FIR has been registered and further investigation is on, police said.
