ERODE: A woman suffered severe burn injuries after three youths allegedly hurled petrol bombs at a house in Veppampalayam in Erode district in the early hours of Wednesday.The injured woman has been identified as Jyothi, who works as a cleaner at a private college. Her son, Gopinath, is a mechanic, while her husband, Natarajan, is a security guard.Perundurai police arrested E Naveen alias Jake, 21, of Pazhaiya Palayam, S Jeevanandham, 21, of Uzhavan Nagar and a 17-year-old boy in connection with the attack.Police said the three youths confronted Jyothi on Tuesday night, alleging that Gopinath had failed to repay money he had borrowed from them. “After the confrontation, they left the scene. They returned in the early hours of Wednesday and threw two petrol-filled bottles at the house,” said a police officer.One of the bottles broke the window of the house, causing severe burns on the face, neck and arms of Jyothi who was sleeping inside. She was admitted to a private hospital in Erode for treatment.Naveen and Jeevanandham were remanded in judicial custody while the minor boy was sent to an observation home.
