Thiruvananthapuram: A 25-year-old woman, reportedly distressed over repeated visa rejections that disrupted her plans to pursue higher studies abroad, was found hanging in her bedroom at Mulamoodu in Poovachal on Thursday night.The deceased has been identified as Anjana, daughter of Babu and Sindhu of Kattakada. According to police, around 9pm, family members became suspicious after Anjana did not respond to her mother’s calls for dinner. They checked her room and found the door locked from inside. The family broke open the door and found her hanging.Anjana was rushed to a nearby private hospital after family members found her with a faint pulse. However, she died shortly after reaching the hospital.Relatives told Kattakada police that Anjana had been under mental distress after her plans to travel to the UK for higher studies were repeatedly delayed. She had applied for a visa twice, but both applications were rejected.Anjana had completed a doctor’s assistant course in Chennai and was working at a hospital in Ernakulam, sources said. She had reportedly been making preparations to pursue further studies in UK and had been hoping to travel after securing the visa.Kattakada Police said a case under the provision of unnatural death was registered. The exact cause of death would be established based on the postmortem report and the evidence gathered during the probe. Her body was handed over to the family after postmortem at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital on Friday.Police are expected to record statements from family members and others close to Anjana soon. Her brother Sanju is currently in UK.
