Gorakhpur: A mother and her teenage son left home together to buy medicines, but returned a day later in coffins, as grief descended on Belwa Dekhli village in Gorakhpur’s Barhalganj area on Saturday. Bindu Devi (42) and her elder son Suraj Yadav (18), who were killed in a road accident on Friday, were cremated on the same pyre, leaving their family devastated.Bindu Devi and Suraj died after a speeding trailer allegedly rammed their motorcycle near the Ramnagar police outpost while they were on their way to Azamgarh to buy medicines.Police said the impact dragged both victims under the vehicle, killing them on the spot.The funeral turned heart-rending as Rajkumar Yadav, who works in Dubai, rushed back home after receiving news of the tragedy and performed the last rites of his wife and son.The family’s younger son, 12-year-old Chandan, was inconsolable throughout the ceremony. Witnesses said he repeatedly broke down beside the bodies of his mother and brother, his cries leaving many mourners in tears.As the funeral procession moved towards the cremation ground and the father lit the pyre, grief-stricken relatives and villagers struggled to come to terms with the loss. Many recalled seeing the mother and son leave home together just a day earlier, unaware that it would be their final journey.Hundreds of villagers, relatives and local leaders attended the cremation and paid their last respects to the deceased.
