Hisar: The Fatehabad police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a woman managing director of a company for allegedly running a fake chit fund scheme and defrauding investors of large sums by promising high returns.The accused, identified as Khushi, a resident of Simbalwala village in Tohana, was apprehended by the economic cell team. The police said she lured people with assurances of 10 to 15% monthly returns on investments.According to inspector Sandeep, in charge of the economic cell, an FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by Baljit Singh of Jandali Kalan and Kavita from Bhuna village.The case was lodged against Prince Pakhi Education World Private Limited under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Haryana Protection of Interest of Depositors Act, and the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act, said the inspector.As per the complaint, the accused convinced the victims that her company was engaged in gold trading and share market investments in Dubai. Enticed by the promise of lucrative returns, the complainants invested a total of Rs 29.25 lakh.The police said the accused initially returned a portion of the money to gain the victims’ trust, but later defaulted on payments and allegedly misappropriated the remaining Rs 23.03 lakh.When the victims demanded their money back, the accused allegedly abused them and issued threats of implicating them in false cases.
