Kanpur: A molestation and attempted rape case has surfaced in Kanpur Dehat’s Devrahat area, where a woman was allegedly lured to an ashram on the pretext of worship. Police have lodged an FIR against 10 persons, including the accused baba, and launched a manhunt for them.In Kanpur Dehat, an FIR was lodged against ten individuals, including the baba of the ashram situated at Chain Ka Purwa under the Devrahat police station on charges of molestation, attempted rape and trafficking. A 28-year-old woman, residing in the Phaphund police station area of Auraiya, submitted a complaint to authorities. She indicated that her husband is engaged in construction work in Kota, Rajasthan and she lives in a rented accommodation in the town with her young son.On June 5, her father-in-law called her and instructed her to return home as the Maharaj was visiting. A worship ceremony was being held, and she was encouraged to participate. On June 6, five individuals, including the alleged Maharaj Hariom Yadav and Kundan Deepak, arrived and conducted the worship. She reported that they departed after inviting her to the ashram to offer prasad. On June 15, she went to Haridham Chain Ka Purwa accompanied by her two brothers-in-law.It is alleged that at the ashram, the accused baba Hariom took her to a separate room under the pretense of worship, where he molested her and attempted to rape her. Hariom, Kundan, Deepak, Ramveer, Sukhveer and five other individuals reportedly assaulted her and choked her. She managed to escape.Devrahat station house officer Saurabh Rana confirmed that an FIR has been filed against ten individuals, including five named suspects, and all are currently being sought.
