Gurgaon: A 36-year-old painter was murdered allegedly by a woman after he refused to marry her. The accused slit his throat with a knife, locked the room from outside and fled the scene in Anangpur village.The victim, identified as Sadakat, a resident of Rampur Shahpur in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district, was found dead on July 30 in a rented room in Domka Mohalla, under the Surajkund police station area. The accused has been identified as Anita, who is also in her 30s.Acting on a complaint by his brother, Najakat Ali, Surajkund police registered a murder case under Section 103(1) and handed the investigation to Crime Branch DLF. The accused — a native of Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh, living as a tenant in Anangpur — was arrested on Friday, Faridabad police spokesperson Yashpal Yadav said.During interrogation, the woman told police that she and Sadakat worked together at Omaxe Society — he as a painter, she as a domestic worker. Both were married, though she was abandoned by her husband, and the two grew close over time. She wanted to marry him and repeatedly pressed him on it, but he kept avoiding the proposal, police said.According to the investigation, she called Sadakat to her rented room on July 25 and served him alcohol. After he fell asleep in an intoxicated state late that night, she slit his throat and fled. The crime came to light five days later, on Thursday, after neighbours noticed a foul smell emanating from the room.The accused was produced before a local court on Friday and remanded to two days of police custody. Police said the remand period will be used to recover the murder weapon.
