Bhubaneswar: A woman gave birth to a baby girl on board the Alappuzha-Dhanbad Express shortly before the train reached Ambadola station in Rayagada district on Saturday evening, railway officials said.The passenger, who was travelling from Kerala to Bihar, went into labour after the train crossed Muniguda station. Co-passengers alerted the railway authorities and arrangements were made for medical assistance at Ambadola. The train arrived at the station at 6.08 pm and was detained for 49 minutes to ensure the mother and newborn received immediate care.Railway staff and personnel of Railway Protection Force helped the woman and her baby safely deboard the coach. A 108 ambulance, which had been called in advance, was waiting at the station and shifted them to the local hospital.Official sources said the train resumed its journey at 6.57 pm. “Both the mother and the baby were admitted to the hospital at Ambadola and are stable,” an RPF personnel said.Railway employees said timely coordination among onboard passengers, station staff and emergency medical services helped manage the situation without delay and ensured prompt medical attention for the mother and newborn. No further complications were reported by officials.
