New Delhi: A 55-year-old woman was found dead while her husband, a homoeopathic doctor, was lying in a semi-conscious state at their residence in southwest Delhi’s Bindapur, police said Tuesday. The husband has claimed that they consumed pesticide, said police. Their pet dog was also found dead under suspicious circumstances.Police received information about the alleged suicide attempt by the couple around 2.49am from their residence at Indira Park. While the woman was declared dead at the spot, her 56-year-old husband was shifted to a hospital.The husband, who was yet to gain full consciousness, told police that both he and his wife consumed pesticide around 11.30am Monday to kill themselves. However, police are verifying his claims and probing the circumstances that led to the incident. Officers said investigators were speaking to family members and neighbours to understand whether the couple had been facing any personal, financial or medical distress.Police suspect that the pet dog might have been administered a lethal injection. “The matter is being investigated,” an officer said.Forensic teams have collected suspected pesticide residue and other material evidence.
