Jamshedpur: A 31-year-old woman, who gave birth to a stillborn baby at the community health centre (CHC) in Manoharpur in West Singhbhum district on Saturday, died during treatment, prompting the health authorities to order a probe.Khushbu Khandayat, a resident of Dongakata village, was admitted to the CHC with labour pain on Saturday. In the evening, she gave birth to a stillborn child. When she learnt about her stillborn baby, she reportedly suffered mental trauma and died of post-delivery complications late on Saturday, sources said.Following Khushbu’s death, her bereaved family created a ruckus accusing the hospital staff of not being responsive to her condition. “If they were experiencing difficulty in tending to post-delivery complications, then they should have referred her to the Sadar hospital on time. Delayed treatment led to my wife’s death,” Khushbu’s husband, Rohit Khandayat, said. He demanded a probe and action against officials responsible for her death.Locals and Manoharpur block president of Congress, Sitaram Gop, alleged that neither a surgeon nor a gynaecologist is available at the CHC. “The CHC has an ultrasound machine but there are no trained technicians to operate it. Even emergency services are non-existent,” Gop alleged.District civil surgeon Dr Jujhar Majhi said that a probe has been initiated in the matter. Majhi said that strict action will be taken against the culprits on the basis of the findings. “With regard to the facilities at the CHC, a detailed assessment will be conducted and steps will be taken accordingly,” Majhi told the media on Sunday.
