Ambala: A 24-year-old woman died in a fatal road crash on National Highway (NH) 44 after a car hit an e-rickshaw in Ambala’s Parao police station area on Wednesday night. The car was allegedly driven by an intoxicated police personnel.The deceased was identified as Nikita, a resident of Model Town. She was travelling towards Ambala City in the e-rickshaw when the cop’s vehicle struck it. She fell out of the e-rickshaw, and the car ran over her. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The accused cop was identified as Amit Kumar, a head constable of Haryana Police, who was posted at Baldev Nagar police station in the Ambala City area.The family members of the deceased gathered at the hospital and protested against the accused cop, who ran over their daughter. They also tried to enter the hospital premises where the accused cop was undergoing a medical examination. Extra police force was deputed to control the situation. The police forcibly closed the shutter gate of the trauma centre at the civil hospital in Ambala City. The situation at the hospital returned to normal after about four hours.E-rickshaw driver Ravinder Singh said, “”I was driving from Ambala Cantonment towards the city with four passengers when a speeding Honda City, driven by a drunk policeman, hit my e-rickshaw near Kali Paltan bridge. A woman fell onto the highway and was run over. The heavily intoxicated cop was caught by the public and taken to the hospital.”Nikita’s brother Mayank said, “My elder sister was returning home from her job in Gurugram when the drunk policeman’s car hit the e-rickshaw she was travelling in and killed her.”On-duty doctor at the civil hospital in Ambala City Dr DD Pandey said, “We received a female dead body at about 9:30 pm. The body was kept at the mortuary, and a police investigation is ongoing.”Inspector Dharamvir, Parao station house officer (SHO), said, “We have registered a case of causing death by negligence against the accused head constable Amit Kumar, who was posted at Baldev Nagar police station. Samples of his blood were also collected to examine whether he was drunk or not. Action will be taken as per the law. Further investigation is ongoing.”To a query, SHO Dharamvir said the post-mortem examination of the deceased, Nikita, was conducted on Thursday, and her body was handed over to the family members for last rites.MSID:: 128249694 413 |
