Jharsuguda: A 30-year-old woman was critically injured after an unidentified masked assailant barged into her house and opened fire. The incident took place at Sarbahal Talipada area on Friday night. Jharsuguda police identified the victim as Biswabijayini Jena. She lives in a rented accommodation.According to reports, the incident took place when Jena’s husband, Dhirendra, had just returned home and went to the kitchen to fetch some drinking water. Jena was in her bedroom when the assailant entered the house, fired a bullet at her and fled the spot. Jena was rushed to the Jharsuguda Satellite Hospital and later referred to Vimsar, Burla. She was subsequently taken to Cuttack for advanced treatment.Jharsuguda SP G R Raghavendra said, “The incident was reported around 9:30 pm and thereafter, the SDPO and the IIC reached the spot. The victim sustained a gunshot injury on her right upper thigh. Her condition is stable. The motive behind the attack is still unknown and an investigation is underway.”Police have launched a manhunt to trace the accused. Sources said Dhirendra is originally from Sambalpur and was living in Jharsuguda with his wife for the past three months for work.
