Bathinda: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Faridkot has been suspended after a video surfaced showing her five-year-old granddaughter tied to the iron gate of her home.ASI Sarabjit Kaur, who served as a ‘Mahila Mittar’ at the Faridkot Sadar police station, was taking care of the child while the girl’s parents were in Portugal. On Tuesday, Kaur allegedly tied the girl to the outer gate of her residence in the Dogar Basti area, using pieces of cloth to bind the child’s hands and feet. The girl remained trapped for hours until neighbours intervened. They knocked on the door but got no response. After some time, Kaur emerged, untied the girl, and took her inside, neighbours said, adding the child was crying and in shock, unable to speak about the ordeal. It is not clear what led Kaur to carry out such an act. The incident came to light after its video clip went viral on Wednesday. “The incident is unacceptable. The ASI has been suspended, and the matter has been referred to the District Child Welfare Committee for further action,” said Tarlochan Singh, Faridkot DSP sub-division.
