Varanasi: Sensation prevailed in Pared Kothi area under Sigra police station on Tuesday after police found a man and a woman dead inside a hotel room on Tuesday.After inspecting the site, DCP Kashi Zone Gaurav Banshwal said that the deceased were identified as Subba (42) and Dhanalakshmi (38), natives of Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh. The father’s name mentioned in their identity documents recovered from the hotel room m was same, suggesting that they were brother and sister. The DCP added that the condition of the bodies and pills found near them hinted that they died by suicide.
Police were trying to contact their family, while forensic experts were engaged in evidence collection. As no suicide note was found, the reasons behind the suicide could not be ascertained.Hotel manager Asif said that the two checked into the hotel located near Roadways bus stand in Pared Kothi area on Feb 8. He said the duo told hotel staff that they had come to Varanasi for worship and sightseeing. The behaviour of both, staying in room-2005, appeared normal, and they had dinner on Monday night. They were scheduled to check out on Tuesday morning. But when they did not open the room door and respond to repeated calls until around noon, hotel staff alerted the police, suspecting something amiss. Police later opened the door using a duplicate key and found both lying on the floor. Police recovered a packet of suspected poison from a table inside the room, and the woman was found with froth at her mouth. Police said their identity documents submitted at the time of hotel registration were about 12 years old, as the duo had earlier lived at that address as tenants. Additional documents, including Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and a driving licence, were also recovered from the room.
