Vadodara: For the first time in the city, a woman has been booked for making her two-year-old daughter beg at a traffic signal. The offence was registered after the woman was found to be using the girl despite being warned against it earlier.The Child Welfare Committee of the district, the She Team of city police, a social worker from the NGO Prayas and others conducted drives to identify people using children for begging. The officials so far focused on creating awareness among such persons about the law they were violating. Those involved in using children for begging had been given warnings in the past. On Friday, Kesar Waghri, who was warned earlier during a drive in Fatehgunj, was seen begging with children again. On seeing the officials, the woman asked told the other children with her to go away but had to keep her two-year-old girl with her. She was detained by police and booked under the Juvenile Justice Act under the sections pertaining to a person having control over a child assaulting, abandoning, abusing, neglecting or causing mental or physical suffering to the child, and the Bombay Prevention of Begging Act for forcing someone into begging.
