Shimla: The Shimla police on Monday claimed to have arrested a woman from Kharar in Punjab’s SAS Nagar district for allegedly duping a Shimla resident of Rs 25 lakh on the pretext of arranging a Canadian visa.An FIR was registered on Nov 21 last year at Boileauganj police station for cheating, criminal intimidation, and criminal conspiracy. According to the complaint, the accused promised to send the complainant’s sister, Bhavana, to Canada and fraudulently collected Rs 25 lakh for processing her visa and overseas arrangements.After the case was registered, police teams conducted raids in Punjab and Haryana to trace the suspects. However, the accused reportedly remained absconding, frequently changing mobile SIM cards and using WhatsApp calls to avoid detection.Following intensive technical surveillance, a special police team raided a flat in Shivalik City, Kharar, on Feb 22 and arrested the accused, identified as Manju Kumari.The police said she lured the victim under false pretence and committed the fraud.
