England’s James Willstrop, a former World No,1 has been named the foreign coach of the Indian senior (men & women) squash team for the Asian Games to be held in Aichi-Nagoya (Japan) from September 19 to October 4. The 43-year-old will reach Chennai on September 17 and will fly with the Indian team the next day to Japan along with the Indian head coach Harinderpal Singh Sandhu.
Cyrus Poncha, Secretary of Squash Rackets Federation of India, will be the Technical Delegate for squash for the Asian Games. Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh, India’s top squash players, will train in Pontefract Squash Club in West Yorkshier with James in a few weeks’ time.
It is reliably learnt that India has won the bid for the Asian senior individual championships to be held in April-May next year. The venue for championships is yet to be decided.
