Ruhullah has been a vocal critic of the Omar Abdullah-led NC government in Jammu and Kashmir and has often accused the chief minister of failing to fulfil the promises made to the people ahead of the assembly elections in October 2024. He has also organised parallel programmes in Srinagar and New Delhi, mainly demanding rationalisation of reservation and restoration of Article 370.
“It is not possible that Dr Sahab asks for something at this age and I will leave him empty-handed. I will speak in detail about this in a few days,” said Ruhullah in response to Farooq Abdullah’s demand for his resignation.

Ruhullah won the Lok Sabha election from the Srinagar constituency in the 2024 parliamentary elections, securing 3,56,866 votes. His closest rival, PDP candidate Waheed Para, received 1,68,450 votes. NC legislators have also trained their guns on Ruhullah, accusing him of working “selfishly” on “an agenda of agencies.”
“He wants to make himself a great leader. I want to tell him that he is on the wrong path and he should follow the Quran to find the right path,” Farooq Abdullah told reporters, adding, “I am telling him to resign from the Parliament seat and seek the mandate again. Let us see who will vote for him. Everything will be clear in front of you.”
The NC chief also warned him of consequences, stating that he should learn a lesson from the 1984 incident when 14 people had conspired to bring down his government. “He should beware of what happened to those 14 people who were instrumental in breaking my government. Today they are nowhere, nobody knows their name. But he has every right to do everything he wants,” said the NC president.
