GUWAHATI: Accused husband Ramanuj Goswami, arrested for allegedly killing and beheading his wife Riya Talukdar Goswami, has claimed he has “no regrets” and will offer “no apology” for the crime.Goswami allegedly said that if he were released from jail, he would also kill the man he referred to as his wife’s “sugar daddy”.The remarks come day after the gruesome killing of 25-year-old Riya, whose partially decomposed and decapitated body was recovered from the couple’s flat in Guwahati’s Beltola area.Police said Riya’s severed head was found wrapped in a polythene bag and kept inside the refrigerator. Her fingers had also allegedly been cut off.The couple had married on September 22 last year. Police said the killing allegedly took place following a quarrel between the two on September 3, with the argument continuing into the early hours of the following day.Ramanuj, a cab driver, later surrendered before police and allegedly confessed to killing his wife. Investigators said he claimed that frequent disputes over his allegations of an extramarital affair had led to repeated quarrels between the couple.DCP Tabu Ram Pegu said the accused had disclosed certain details during questioning and that police were examining the circumstances surrounding the crime.“We are verifying the facts as claimed by the husband. Detailed interrogation is yet to be done. We are examining the circumstances leading to the crime,” police said.A ‘dao’, or machete, allegedly used in the killing has been recovered from the house. The case came to light after family members reportedly failed to contact the couple for two days. Police reached the flat and found the door open, with Riya’s body lying on the floor and her head severed.A local court has sent Goswami to seven days of police custody as investigators continue their probe.
