New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested a woman who, along with her sister’s friend, allegedly attempted to extort her husband — a businessman — amid an ongoing domestic dispute and plotted to eliminate her mother-in-law. Police have also arrested the friend, who was allegedly in contact with gang members and had sent threat messages to the husband.The accused have been identified as Sapna Jain and Rajat.Police said they received a complaint from a businessman running a wholesale business in Laxmi Nagar, alleging that he had received calls and messages from an international number. The caller identified himself as a member of the Gogi Gang and demanded an extortionate amount of Rs 50 lakh.During the investigation, a team from the special cell nabbed Rajat from Sonipat. Police found that he was already involved in two Arms Act cases and one snatching case. He was in touch with several members of the Gogi gang, including jailed gangster Rohit Moi.Inquiry further revealed that Rajat was in contact with a US-based extortionist and was simultaneously communicating with the businessman’s wife and sister-in-law. During interrogation, he confessed that Sapna had assigned him the task of extorting money from her husband and later plotting the elimination of her mother-in-law and assaulting her husband.Police said the businessman married Sapna in 2007, and the couple have two children. During the interrogation of both the accused and Sapna’s sister, it emerged that the couple had been facing domestic disputes. Sapna allegedly hired Rajat, a friend of her sister, and conspired to first extort money from her husband and later target her mother-in-law and assault him. She had also shared details of her husband’s movements with Rajat, police said.
