Nagpur: Ambazari police registered a case against a 32-year-old woman for allegedly driving her husband, a constable, to commit suicide following mental harassment. As per police sources, constable Shilratna Belekar, 42, who was posted at Rana Pratap Nagar police station, died by suicide after taking a plunge in Ambazari Lake on April 22. Ambazari police initially registered accidental death case and launched an investigation.Later, Belekar’s younger brother lodged a complaint stating that between Feb 5, 2024, and Feb 24 this year, the constable’s wife Ruchika was involved in an extramarital affair with a teacher. Ruchika reportedly told her husband that she no longer wished to live with him and repeatedly demanded his property, money and divorce, said the complainant.The complaint also stated that Ruchika constantly harassed Shilratna with provocative statements asking him to commit suicide. This pushed Shilratna into depression, the complaint stated.Based on complaint and findings of the investigation, Ambazari police registered an offence against Ruchika under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetting suicide. Police have initiated a detailed probe into the allegations of extra-marital affair, mental cruelty and abetment. Police are collecting evidence, including call records, witness statements and any other material.
