Kolkata: CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday questioned PM Narendra Modi’s silence on Pakistan defence minister Khawaja Asif’s alleged threat to target Kolkata and demanded the PM’s resignation.“We do not want enmity with any country. But why does PM Modi remain silent when Pakistan’s defence minister says that Kolkata will be targeted? Why did he not mention it once when he addressed a rally on Sunday? Why did he not say that he will take strong action?” said the CM in a rally in Nadia’s Bethuadahari. Nadia shares a border with Bangladesh. The CM added: “If the people of Bengal are targeted, Bengal will target Delhi. We will not remain silent if someone says that Kolkata will be attacked. You remained silent because targeting Bengal is easy for you. But you don’t have the guts to respond to the Pakistani minister. You should resign.”The TMC chief also said that the PM should resign if infiltration was indeed as rampant as he had claimed on Sunday in Cooch Behar. “He (Modi) should be ashamed. The borders are controlled by his govt. Your home minister is responsible for controlling the central forces who guard the borders. If infiltrators have entered India, then it is your failure. You should first resign,” she said.TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee also slammed Centre over the Pakistani threat. Speaking at a rally in Malda, Abhishek said: “Two days ago, Pakistani minister Khwaja Asif threatened to attack Kolkata. PM Modi is silent, home minister Amit Shah is silent, and so is the defence minister. I have written Khwaja Asif’s name on a piece of paper. The day a Mamata Banerjee and INDIA bloc-led govt comes to office in Delhi, we will teach Asif a lesson. Ghar mein ghus ke maarenge…”
