NEW DELHI: A Zero FIR has been registered against Noida resident Ruchika Singh for allegedly using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 23.The FIR was lodged at the Expressway police station in Noida on the complaint of a Ghaziabad resident. Police said the case has been registered under Sections 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 353(1) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 356(1) (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). As the alleged incident took place in Delhi, the Zero FIR will be transferred to the Delhi Police for further investigation.Who is Ruchika Singh?According to information gathered from her social media accounts and conversations with people familiar with her, Ruchika Singh works at a salon and owns a house in Noida. Police said she is a resident of Sector 168 in the city.She came under the spotlight after a video from the Jantar Mantar protest surfaced online, leading to allegations that she used “abusive and objectionable” language against the prime minister. The complainant alleged that her remarks hurt the dignity of the constitutional office and were intended to spread hatred and disturb public peace.A Zero FIR allows a complaint to be registered at any police station regardless of where the alleged offence took place. It is subsequently transferred to the police station with jurisdiction over the case.
