The scenic East Coast Road came alive on Sunday morning as over 1,200 cyclists took part in Chennai Cyclothon 2026, organised by Chennai Cyclists, in association with Chennai Times . The event celebrated the spirit of fitness, sustainable mobility and community engagement.Aravindan, IPS, Additional Director, Narcotics Control Bureau, Chennai Zonal Unit,who also rode 50km category along with NCB team members, Sudhakar the from Tamilnadu Cycling Association, and actor Mahat Raghavendra flagged off the event and appreciated the initiative for combining fitness with a strong social message.Participants took part across five ride categories — 100km, 50km, 25km, 10km, and the 2–5km Kids Ride — with routes stretching along the picturesque ECR for the 25km/50km/100km categories. The flagship 100 km ride extended up to the scenic Vayalur Check Dam, offering cyclists a memorable riding experience.“One of the standout features was the overwhelming participation in the Kids Ride, reflecting the growing acceptance of cycling among the younger generation as a healthy lifestyle choice and an environmentally responsible mode of transport,” shared an organiser.A ride that also sent a strong messageThis year’s edition coincided with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, and carried the powerful message ‘Say No to Drugs & Ride for a Drug-Free India.’ Participants enthusiastically endorsed the antidrug campaign by taking an Anti-Drug oath, posed with the ‘Say No to Drugs’ photo installations and left heartfelt messages on the signature wall.
