Ahmedabad: The people of Ahmedabad on Sunday woke up to pattering rain that continued with breaks till late evening as a light drizzle. Till 8pm the city had received an average 16mm of rain. On Saturday, the city had received 22mm. According to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) data, Viratnagar received 28mm, followed by 26.5mm in Odhav, 24mm in Vatva, 23.5mm in Rakhial in eastern city areas, and 21.5mm in Maktampura, 17.5mm in Sarkhej, 16mm in Jodhpur, 15.5mm in Bopal, and 12.5 mm in Gota in the west. While many residents took advantage of the weather, the poor road conditions dampened some spirits. Bhargav Parikh, a Vadodara resident visiting Ahmedabad for a social engagement, said he witnessed stretches damaged on the city’s outskirts. “Construction and repair work mostly remains incomplete during monsoon, resulting in traffic snarls,” he said. On Sunday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 28.6 degrees celsius, 8.2 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature at 25.5 degrees was 1.7 degrees below normal. The synoptic situation indicated an upper air cyclonic circulation over the north Arabian Sea and an east-west trough from Rajasthan and Gujarat to the Bay of Bengal. Both systems are providing ample rain to the region.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath on Monday. Other districts may experience light thunderstorms with lightning and surface wind of 30-40 kmph.
