The Election Commission is set to publish the final electoral roll on February 28, retaining the format used in the draft roll, according to Commission sources.
Initially, the state had 7.66 crore registered voters. Following the deletion of 58 lakh names, the total number of electors now stands at 7.08 crore. Sources in the Commission have indicated that all 7.08 crore names will appear in the list scheduled for publication.
Categorised Publication
The roll will be published in a categorised format:
- Names that are cleared will appear without any adverse remark and will effectively remain approved.
- Names that have been removed will be marked as “Deleted.”
- Names that have been referred for verification by judicial officers will be marked as “Under Adjudication” or “Adjudication.”
- Names that have been kept parked will also be indicated accordingly.
Approximately 60 lakh names are currently under adjudication.
According to sources, cases that are disposed of by February 28 will be treated as eligible voters. Their names will appear in the list, and in such instances, there may not be any separate remark alongside the entry.
At a later stage, the Commission is expected to publish a separate list identifying those found eligible from the adjudication category. These names will subsequently be incorporated into the final roll.
Additions and Deletions
New voters enrolled through Form 6 will be included in the main roll. Additionally, a separate supplementary list of newly enrolled voters will be published along with the principal roll.
Earlier entries that have been removed will carry the remark “Deleted” beneath the name.
Discrepancy and Verification Data
Sources in the Commission said that, apart from the 58 lakh deletions:
- Around 1.20 crore voters fell under the category of logical discrepancies.
- Approximately 32 lakh voters were classified as unmapped.
- Nearly 4.98 lakh voters did not appear for hearings.
- Around 1.63 lakh voters were identified as fake, according to sources.
