Total 37 lakhs have been disposed of by 705 judicial officers under the monitoring of Calcutta High Court, out of 60.6 lakhs under adjudication.
The Election Commission has published Bengal’s second supplementary voters’ list around 11pm on Friday while the first was published on Monday.
The disenfranchised can appeal within 15 days, online or offline, before appellate tribunals.
The Election Commission stands ready to publish a daily Supplementary list, if Judicial Officers submit their daily reports, West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal said.
With two phase elections being held in Bengal on April 23 and 29, the Election Commission is putting special emphasis on 100% webcasting. “Cameras will be positioned both inside and outside the polling booths. Each booth will be equipped with two cameras. Webcasting will commence from the time of the mock poll. Monitoring will be conducted from the Returning Officer’s control room, District Magistrate’s office and the surveillance will be maintained from the CEO’s office in a three-layered manner,” Agarwal said.
In addition to booth surveillance, video feeds from Flying Squads and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will also be transmitted to the control room, the CEO said.A Zilla Parishad Sabhapati of Trinamool Congress in Coochbehar, in his letter head, wrote a letter to two judicial officers threatening them. The two judicial officers have informed the High Court. Abhijit Dey Bhowmik said that he has requested the judicial officers. The Election Commission has sought a report from the DGP on this issue.
The letter questioned why the disposal of cases was not proceeding satisfactorily and warned them. The judicial officer lodged a complaint with the Chief Justice of Calcutta High COurt. Last night, the High Court authorities handed over the said letter to the Director General of Police (DGP). The Calcutta High Chief Justice has directed appropriate action be taken. The DGP has given assurances that an investigation will be conducted.
