The Election Commission of India on Sunday announced the schedule for the Assembly elections in West Bengal. Polling in the state will be conducted in two phases — April 23 and April 29 — and the results will be declared on May 4.
The schedule was announced by the Election Commission during a press conference in New Delhi.
Election Schedule
Phase-wise polling will take place as per the following schedule:
Issue of notification: For first phase: March 30; for second phase: April 2
Last date for filing nominations: For first phase: April 6; for second phase: April 9
Scrutiny of nominations: For first phase: April 7; for second phase: April 10
Last date for withdrawal of candidature: For first phase: April 9; for second phase: April 13
Date(s) of poll:
Phase 1 – April 23
Phase 2 – April 29
Counting of votes / Results: May 4
The Election Commission is expected to enforce the Model Code of Conduct in the state with immediate effect following the announcement of the election schedule.
