NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rain in Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Gangetic West Bengal on Sunday, with extremely heavy rain likely at isolated places in Odisha.Several other states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and parts of the Northeast, are also likely to receive heavy rain, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds have been forecast in parts of eastern, central and southern India.
IMD alert for Sunday
Odisha is expected to see the most intense rainfall, with heavy to very heavy rain and isolated extremely heavy rain likely in the state.Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Gangetic West Bengal are also likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain.Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Uttarakhand.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely in parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand may also see thunderstorms with gusty winds.Lightning is likely in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Uttarakhand.
North India weather
Uttarakhand is likely to receive heavy rain on Sunday, with the state expected to remain under fairly widespread rainfall through September 4. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad may also see thunderstorms and lightning.Himachal Pradesh is expected to receive rainfall in the coming days, with heavy rain likely from August 31 to September 4.
Central India forecast
Chhattisgarh is likely to see widespread rainfall through September 4, with heavy rain on Sunday. East Madhya Pradesh may also receive heavy rain, while thunderstorms and lightning are possible in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
East India forecast
Rainfall is expected to remain widespread over Jharkhand and Odisha through the coming days. Gangetic West Bengal, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are also likely to see widespread rain.Odisha may see another spell of heavy to very heavy rain in the coming days, while extremely heavy rain is expected at isolated places on Sunday.
Northeast to remain wet
Arunachal Pradesh is likely to see widespread rainfall through September 4. Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also expected to receive widespread rain, with thunderstorms and lightning in parts of the region.
West and south India
Konkan and Goa are likely to continue receiving widespread rainfall through September 4. Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra and Kutch may see scattered rain.In south India, coastal Karnataka is likely to receive widespread rainfall, while Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep may also see widespread rain on Sunday. Parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Telangana and Rayalaseema may receive scattered rain.Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely in parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on Sunday.

Rainfall is expected to remain active across several parts of the country through September 4.Heavy rain is likely to continue in parts of the hills, central and eastern India, the Northeast and the west coast, with isolated very heavy rain possible in parts of Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Gangetic West Bengal in the coming days.
