The IMD has advised people in areas likely to receive heavy rainfall to check traffic conditions before travelling, avoid waterlogged locations and vulnerable structures, and follow local advisories.

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across several states on Saturday, with heavy to very heavy rain likely over parts of the Northeast and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected across several regions, while severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue in isolated parts of east Uttar Pradesh.

IMD alert for Saturday

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, while isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places over Bihar, Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Telangana and Vidarbha.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, east Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Vidarbha.Gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely over Chhattisgarh, Telangana, West Bengal, Sikkim and west Rajasthan.

Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow

Delhi is likely to witness partly cloudy skies with the possibility of light rain or thundershowers. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are also likely during the day.

State-wise forecast

Severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist at isolated places over east Uttar Pradesh.Bihar is likely to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds. Odisha may witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.Across the Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are expected to receive heavy rain at isolated places. Extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.Himachal Pradesh is likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. Similar thunderstorm activity is expected over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab.In western India, heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra, while coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe are also expected to receive heavy rain.

Monsoon update

The southwest monsoon is expected to advance further over the next three to four days. According to the IMD, conditions remain favourable for its advance into more parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, the remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar, besides some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.The IMD has advised people in areas likely to receive heavy rainfall to check traffic conditions before travelling, avoid waterlogged locations and vulnerable structures, and follow local advisories. Residents in areas under thunderstorm warnings have been advised to stay indoors during lightning activity and avoid taking shelter under trees.
