NEW DELHI: Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected to continue across several parts of the country on Sunday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting intense monsoon activity over western and central India.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely in several regions, while Mumbai and adjoining districts remain under a red alert for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
IMD alert for Sunday
According to the IMD, extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected over coastal Karnataka, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Saurashtra, Kutch, south interior Karnataka, Telangana and Vidarbha.Heavy rainfall is likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Mahe, Marathwada, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, north interior Karnataka, Odisha and Uttarakhand.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected over Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Telangana, West Bengal and Sikkim.
Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow
Delhi and adjoining parts of Haryana are likely to witness rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Gusty winds are also expected at isolated places.
Mumbai weather tomorrow
Mumbai is expected to continue witnessing heavy rainfall, with the IMD extending its red alert for neighbouring Palghar district for July 5. The weather department has forecast very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Mumbai and adjoining districts, including Thane and Raigad, as active monsoon conditions persist over the Konkan region.
West and central India forecast
The heaviest rainfall is expected over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra, where extremely heavy rain has been forecast at isolated places.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Saurashtra and Kutch, while Chhattisgarh is expected to receive heavy rain.
East and northeast India forecast
Heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Gangetic West Bengal is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while thunderstorms are likely across parts of eastern India.The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Puri, forecasting heavy rainfall in the city on Saturday and Sunday.
South India forecast
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka and Telangana, while heavy rain is expected over Kerala, Mahe, north interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected across several parts of southern India.
Monsoon update
The southwest monsoon is expected to remain active over large parts of the country over the coming days. Widespread rainfall is likely across northwest, central, eastern, northeastern and peninsular India through the week.
IMD’s latest forecast for the next few days
The IMD has forecast active monsoon conditions to continue over much of the country during the next three to four days. Heavy rainfall is likely to persist over parts of Gujarat, Konkan, central Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, the Himalayan states and the west coast, while widespread rain is expected across eastern, northeastern and southern India.
