Lucknow: Thunderstorm brought relief from hot and humid weather, but also caused waterlogging and power disruptions in several areas, in the city on Wednesday.The weather changed around 1pm as strong winds, thunder and rain swept across the city. Visibility dropped briefly on some roads, while motorists and parents returning from schools with children were caught in the rain.Chinhat recorded the highest rainfall at 27mm, followed by Aliganj (15mm), Gomtinagar (13.5mm), Jankipuram (11.5mm) and Raj Bhawan (7.5mm).Waterlogging was reported in Nirala Nagar, Gomtinagar, Faizullaganj, parts of Aliganj and other areas. Residents said clogged drains and garbage slowed the drainage of rainwater.“It rained for barely 20 minutes, but the roads were full of water. Better drain cleaning could have helped the water drain faster,” said Ratnesh Mahajan, resident of Nirala Nagar.The storm also disrupted power supply in some localities. Hoardings were uprooted and tree branches fell on roads at a few places. In Gomtinagar, a large tree fell on a moving car, damaging it. No one was injured. An LMC team reached the spot and cleared the road.The maximum temperature was 35.2 degrees Celsius and minimum 25.7 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity touched 92%. Partly cloudy skies with a possibility of thundery development are expected on Thursday.Senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Mohammad Danish, said moisture from the Arabian Sea, a western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation over west UP contributed to the thunderstorm.
